I’m finding it hard to be a citizen of this country these days. You may remember that I am from Toronto, Canada. I have dual citizenship because of my American mother and my daughter does too. It was a culture shock for me when we moved here in 1995–I vividly remember my surprise and dismay at seeing ads for guns in the Sunday sale inserts.

Children are an important part of my life–I love nothing better than talking and crafting with kids at my shop. They are some of the most interesting people I know. I find myself sad, angry, and speechless following the mass shooting of students and teachers in Texas. There is no way to make sense of this and the many other shootings happening in our country. My greatest fear is that nothing will be done (yet again) to control gun ownership and use, especially rapid fire assault weapons. This can’t possibly be what the framers of the constitution intended with the second amendment. Thoughts and prayers? Only action matters now.
